Drops Best Practices

The best Drops create unique experiences for the fan, sound like the artist, and have a great design. For more tips from the co:brand team, visit this article.

Drop Templates Overview

💡 Co:brand has a number of Drop templates purpose-built for the music industry. Each has distinct properties, but can be customized across a variety of fields and optional settings.

For more details, please see the dedicated pages per template.

General Signup:

This is the template we use for your example drop. Here are some use cases for the General Signup template:

  • Build a fan-list - send out Artist updates like newsletters or milestone events

  • Create an RSVP page - pop-up shows and limited-attendance events like guestlist

  • Promote an event - raise awareness about a show or upcoming music release

  • Share an active link - promote merchandise

Pre-Sale & Multi-Links:

This template is designed for tours, multi-event campaigns, and managing both pre-sale and general ticket sales through a single link.

Click here for a set-up instructions and more details.

Instagram Comment Drops:

Use this to increase Instagram post engagement and engage users in a unique way. Fans can comment a key phrase, and they'll recieve the message you compose, as well as the Drop link. Heads up, your Instagram account will need to be authenticated to use this feature.

For more details about Instagram Comment Drops, click here.

Music Pre-Saves & Listening Links:

Use this when your top priority is encouraging fans to receive your new music directly to their library. Heads up, co:brand presaves apply to all future releases by the artist, so there is no need to link a specific ISRC.

For more information, click here.

Link In Bio:

Use this to create a link-in-bio page with all of your associated links and sign ups.

Fan Content Feed:

Use this to allow fans to upload content to a public gallery where other visitors can browse approved submissions. You will be able to store and download the user-generated conent. More details here.

Basic Details

Title & Description

In all Drop types, you need to configure a Drop Title and Drop Description. If possible, keep it short and sweet. Emojis encouraged.

Drop Link Timing

Specify if this Drop is ongoing or has an end date. After it passes, fans will see it marked as “Ended” with a customizable message.

URL Name

Configure a URL name which appears right after the one you already set in your Artist Profile. Eg. drop.cobrand.com/d/cobrand/URLNAME

Sign Up Form Layout

Choose between an Exposed, Compact or No Form layout for the sign up form

Sign Up Methods

Choose between a combination of Email, SMS and/or Whatsapp.

💬 You can start collecting phone numbers once you register for SMS.

Please note: Prices for SMS and WhatsApp are subject to change per region based on local carrier delivery charges. You can find current rates per country directly in co:brand, in either the Drops or Fan Messaging sections. Charges incurred for Drops will be invoiced at the end of the following month period.

Additional Fields

Any additional fields you include are optional for fans to fill out.

  • If you enable Content Submissions, fans can upload content up to 1GB which will be stored in your account. To learn more about content submissions, visit this page.

  • We recommend to add as few additional fields as possible (excluding content submissions)

💡 Social Fields: We recommend to include Social Fields as signup methods for your Drop to see how 1P fans are engaging across socials!

Post Signup Messaging

This is the message fans receive immediately after they sign-up. These messages can include links, emojis, or can be a simple acknowledgement that the sign-up was a success.

Post Signup Message - Set Up

This is the message fans receive immediately after they sign-up. These messages can include links, emojis, or can be a simple acknowledgement that the sign-up was a success.

The Message field is used for both outgoing SMS and email communication. SMS messages are capped at 160 characters (or 70 if using emojis or special characters), so if your message exceeds this, it will split into multiple texts and incur additional charges.

For longer email content, we recommend using an Email Template instead:

Email Templates

If you want your email to have extra content, we recommend using an Email Template instead. This will also give you the chance to add additional branding, customization, and points of interest.

  • Email templates have no additional charge and you can re-use them later on by clicking Manage Templates > Template Editor.

Post Sign Up Message + Scheduled Message - Set Up

You can add a scheduled follow-up message here. You can also configure it later in the Fan Messaging tab. If you choose the latter, simply set targeting parameters to be "Signups for [Drop Name]". In both scenarios, co:brand will deliver the messages to all sign-ups at the scheduled delivery time.

Typically, Scheduled Messages are configured for Pre-Sale events. Check out the dedicated article on Drop Messaging for best practices on Unique Codes and Scheduled Messages.

At this time, we do not support images in SMS. You can however send multimedia to Whatsapp recipients.

🚨Preview & Test Message: Always preview & test messages before sending them out!

Content

Add embedded content to your Drop, including text, generic links, images, videos, merch, listening links, and event links. You can add as many sections and as much content as you'd like.

Styling and Design

On all Drop templates, you have the option to add a custom image for the artist and pick the color scheme. You can also add a custom background, which can be a nice touch if you have new assets.

At the bottom of this section, you can enable a count-down ticker and set which social platform you want to appear as the primary option.

Additional Tools

This section has functionality that can be applied to Drop templates.

Spotify Pre-Save & Apple Music Pre-Add

For a Pre-Save you can use the dedicated template, or you can layer the option onto another template. In both cases, fans who complete the authentication will opt-in to automatic downloads of all future Artist releases on that platform.

Besides enabling the toggle below, there are no additional steps. co:brand will add all upcoming tracks, so no need to input an ISRC.

Here are the details on the fan experience when this is on:

  • Once they click the Sign-Up button, they are re-directed based on the platform they chose.

  • They will be prompted to accept the Terms & Conditions of the respective platform, and complete an externally-hosted authentication flow. When the new song(s) come out, they appear in Liked Songs right away.

  • Users can disable the connection at anytime in their Settings.

Comment Drop

For simplicity we recommend using the Instagram DM template when you want to run comment-to-DM interaction flows. However you can activate it in combination with any template. Please note: to use this feature the Instagram account must be authenticated.

When Comment Drops are enabled, co:brand will send a Direct Message to fans when they comment a specific phrase or emoji on any Artist post in their account. The phrase is case-insensitive, and fans simply need to include it in their comment i.e. it does not need to be only that word, or that emoji. So try to make it conspicuous!

After commenting the phrase, fans will immediately receive two messages from the Artist's account. First, the post-sign up DM and second, a link to the drop itself.

To turn this off, click into the drop and simply disable the toggle when you are ready. It will take effect within 10 minutes.

Tracking Pixels

In all template types, you can add analytics tracking to collect when users view, share and RSVP to the Drop. See below for instructions on where to find these IDs on each respective platform.

Facebook Pixel ID

  • From your Meta Ads manager, click “Advertising Settings” in the left panel > Under “Creating Ads” select the “Datasets and pixels” option > Locate the dataset ID highlighted in the image below and copy the ID.

Post Signup Redirect URL

When enabled, this will direct the fan after they complete the sign-up. If you also have Pre-Save enabled, the re-direct will happen after they finish the authentication flow.

Additional Legal Information

Use this to add additional terms of service or privacy policies to the Drop. You can write them out as text or add a link. When adding a link, enclose the link text in square brackets, followed immediately by the link in parentheses.

  • [Link text](website link)

These terms appear in a second paragraph beneath the standard co:brand terms (which are not editable).

Please note, redirects will not work if you are embedding the drop in an iframe.

Explicit Opt-In Checkbox

By default, co:brand outlines fan opt-in conditions for Drop sign-ups right beside the Sign Up button. By signing up, fans agree to receive recurring messages from the artists, with the ability to unsubscribe at any time.

If you wish to have an explicit checkbox for opt-in before a fan clicks Sign Up, you can activate this toggle. Fans must select this to proceed.

This is what it will look like when explicit opt-in is enabled:

Language Selection

If you wish to change the language for non-editable fields in the drop, you can select a language from this drop-down. If you require a language we do not currently have, please reach out to us, and we will add it for you.
